October

Nothing matches the October weather
standing in the outcast
ill temper thrown on like an overcoat

reading the paper
Over drags of steam
each exhale a handprint
unseen and felt in equal passes

patience in barbs
one moment of shredding
shrivelling handfuls
a bloom of jellyfish incandescence
mahogany on the hillside

then quiet without pretence
because all winding roads
are lemon drops

sprinkled on the lawn
oblivion in simple greetings
and the best
of season meetings
