hall of all our
framed achievements how
one could
stare between the cherry slats

and make goldfish
cheeks to the panes where
we saw this
wonderment in

spaces of oblong loops
because there was always an amusing
chuckle to
see the boardroom tables

like a pizza stretched too wide
and all one knew was
ideas chase like
butterflies and stick to pale walls

and tap wing
prints against the edge of the doors
that time when everything concrete could
be remade

how you burned to
preserve your idle fantasies in
mason jars with paper
labels that changed with every month

because for
the reasons I never understood
you bookmarked
dreams between the pictures

of meticulous inquiries and
waist-deep studies in the
downpour and breaking numbers like
cryptographers…
