wishes slipping between
fingers with

the same consistency of
rain sloughs

off the rooftop
tiles

reeds cushioned
like cattails

careening
in the autumn

crosswind
a flurry of

conversation remnants
half-remembered plans

and the distant
siren wails

scattering
like dust from

kicked up
feet
